Kula Vineyard's Friendly Animals (part 2)

Posted 11 Mar 2019

Let's continue meeting the many animals who live with us at Kula Vineyards & Winery.

While we were buying the hay for cows at the local horse ranch, we met this beautiful Arabian horse who was only four months old at that time. She looked so scared and so fragile to me. Eventually, she attached to us and whinied to call us. You know what happened then, right? We talked to the owner of the horse ranch and said “We would like to become her owner.” We named her “Hana-hime of Kula”, which means “Flower princess of Kula” in Japanese. Hana’s father is an amazing show horse who received the great prize at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. Right now, Hana is too young to be ridden, so my husband, Hana and I are just getting basic training from the professional trainer. Let’s see how Hana does in the future.

You probably heard about our Golden Retrievers, Kona & Ehime many times at our tasting table. Kona was born in Hawaii where we used to live about 10 years ago. He is the most peaceful dog I’ve ever met in my life. He used to help the rescue dogs and introduced so many new things to them when we were working with the non-profit dog rescue organization in Nevada. Ehime, the English Cream Golden Retriever was born in Las Vegas three years after Kona was born. Ehime quickly fell in love with Kona at first glance. She even tried to drink milk from a gentleman, Kona! (haha!) Kona & Ehime are always together since then. Both of them are very happy Golden Retrievers.

The last thing I want to mention is about Kahlua. He passed away on the last Thanksgiving day at the age of 14. Kahlua was a very loyal Sheltie since he came to us in January, 2005. He enjoyed running with the tractor and barking at birds before harvesting grapes. Both my husband and I still feel pain every time we think of Kahlua, because he took a little piece of our hearts when he left. Kahlua, Kona and Ehime are all on our wine label, so we can be together all the time. They are our treasure.
